March '11 Mearns & Gill moving forward with new Business and New Board Member

Mearns & Gill, the Aberdeen-based integrated marketing communications consultancy, is continuing to build on a strong market upturn last year, with a busy start to 2011 underpinning expectations of further increases in activity in coming months.

Managing Director, Alan Mearns, said: "The expansion of services to long-term clients, recent successes in winning more than a dozen new clients in a spread of sectors, including oil, technology & IT, and the continuing development of our products all augur well for the future."

The value of recent business secured is just over £500,000, with the additional income being generated across a range of services, from design, digital media and recruitment advertising to PR, issue/incident management and training, event management and exhibitions.

Alan Mearns added: "There are clear signs of increased activity in the various sectors we serve, and our positive outlook is reinforced by the addition of Suzanne Robertson to the Board, where she will bring a new perspective, considerable experience and an extensive network of contacts."

An honours graduate in Business Studies at The Robert Gordon University, Suzanne's career has included marketing roles in telecoms and at Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce where, as Events Manager, she pioneered the highly successful Northern Star Business Awards. She joined Mearns & Gill in 2007. As a Director, her responsibilities include key client account management and marketing support; new business development; and event management.

December '10 Proactive in response training

Mearns & Gill’s PR division has had another successful year in continuing to build on its media response training activities, with an expanded client list and more sessions for existing clients, including major oilfield operators.

Doug Allsop, PR Director with responsibilities including training, said: "There was already growing demand for these services ahead of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, but it has heightened offshore industry awareness of the vital requirement for senior management and support staff to be fully prepared. We are continuing to develop the content of our courses and look forward to another busy year in 2011."

The training complements the division's role in providing incident and issue response and participation in exercises as part of its wider public relations services.

November '10 Auchterellon School Alphabet Book

We were approached by Achterellon Primary School to help them create a lasting memory and snapshot of the P1 class and their introduction to writing so far.

The photographs taken by Head Teacher and keen photographer Susan Chalk, are all made from the children's body shapes and are accompanied by a description of how to draw the letter, written by the children.

The descriptions are funny and unique and are the children's way of proving their knowledge and understanding of the shapes of the letters at the beginning of their journey as writers.

The book has given the children so many reasons to talk about writing and learning with their teachers, with each other, and with their families, and has proved to be a popular learning resource in many other schools throughout Aberdeenshire and beyond.

We were more than happy to donate our time to help create this fantastic book and we're glad to work with such enthusiastic people. If you would like to order a copy then please get in touch with the school here.
