Our relationship with Glulam Solutions began through the Mearns & Gill-run Trades Awards. From there, we set up a couple of meetings with the company’s Managing Director to discuss the requirements for his new brand. With a plan in place, we began with a workshop.
In this workshop, we asked Glulam Solutions every single question we could think of to get a real sense of who they are as a business and as a workforce. This allowed Glulam to step back and look at things in a new way which resulted in some really interesting findings.
Before the workshop, we thought we understood the work that would need to go into building a timber structure. However, we were surprised to learn that this is even more intensive that we imagined and requires an extremely high level of precision – more so than using any other building material. The structures are a testament to the skills and expertise of the people involved. They take such pride in their work and approach it with such attention to detail and care that every structure feels handcrafted.
In developing the brand, it was important to capture this high level of skill and the key benefits of using timber for building. We also needed to present the company in a professional, contemporary way, without shying away from the craft that goes into their work.
With the already-interesting look of wood grain – the company’s source material – playing a pivotal role, we captured the very essence of Glulam Solutions’ builds. The logo encompasses 3 rings in alternate colours centred around a G. This puts the company at the very centre of the whole process, getting across the idea of them being a one stop shop, but also reflects the beauty and precision of their builds.
The three rings also reinforce the three components that make up the material the company uses, as well as the process of design, supply and installation which is all dealt with by Glulam Solutions.
Three colours were chosen for the brand – petrol, teal and yellow. This eye-catching, vibrant mix of colours give a bold and dynamic feel to the brand, while steering away from the more obvious colours that could have been used such as brown and green.
We developed brand guidelines which includes notes on logo usage, colour palette and typography, as well as an iconography style which would reinforce the brand. The new brand has now been incorporated into stationery, signage, livery, social media, emails and a range of other materials.
We look forward to working with Glulam Solutions to roll out the brand even further, and it has been fantastic working with such an innovative company that will continue to grow and embrace more and more projects.
