Team Bio

  • Claim to fame:

After learning the ropes and earning my stripes (joined 1978), MD of Mearns & Gill for quarter of a century, from 1991 – 2016. I must have done something right.

  • Words of wisdom:

Never stop learning – it will help you to make it happen

  • Go to snack:

    Twiglets

  • Unpopular opinion:

Dark chocolate tastes better than milk chocolate

  • Your Karaoke Song:

Take It to the Limit, The Eagles

  • What’s the best bit of advice you’ve ever been given?

Always take the long view (and make your decisions accordingly)

  • Secret Talent:

Culinary skills (though not everyone would agree)

  • Weirdest thing you believed as a child:

That I’d never be old (and I’m not, yet). Oh, and that I could possibly achieve this set of stats: married to my wonderful wife for 40 years (Tania worked at M&G for 30 years and has been my constant support); 2 wonderful and successful sons; 2 equally wonderful and successful daughters-in-law; and 4 utterly adorable grandchildren. Super proud. And all around the time that M&G would be celebrating 90 years in business, with Mike having so ably taken the helm 10 years ago. It’s all about taking the long view.

  • What’s your most-used emoji?

    🤣

  • If you weren’t a Consultant at Mearns & Gill, what would you be?

Long haul Commercial Pilot (to see even more of the world) … but importantly, that job is also about taking care of customers

  • What’s your superpower:

    Perseverance

  • Most unusual client request:

‘Get rid of my double chin’

  • Top management tip:

Take the long view and do whatever it takes, both for your clients and your team (Mearns & Gill will celebrate 90 years in business in 2026)

  • Dream client, and why:

Monte Rosa, Zermatt – so that we could visit regularly 🤣
