Claim to fame:
Biggest beard at Mearns & Gill.
-
Greatest achievement
Winning the 'Sportsmanship of the Year' award in my short football career in school. Nothing beats a token award.
-
Words of wisdom:
Treat others how they want to be treated. Thinking this way and not how you want to be treated, gives you the chance to listen to others and to find that sometimes you are not right.
-
Go to snack:
Chocolate covered raisins… I know! It’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
-
Unpopular opinion:
AI is not the future. Websites are a communication tool between you and an audience, using a text or media generator removes that connection.
-
Your Karaoke Song:
Life is a Lemon by Meatloaf. Gets quite awkward after a while as it is an 8 minute song that has a 2 and a half minute guitar solo.
-
What’s the best bit of advice you’ve ever been given?
“Collaboration is key”, being able to work with others opens the doors to really creative work.
-
Secret Talent:
I can fit an entire wagon wheel in my mouth (with room to spare).
-
Weirdest thing you believed as a child:
That the name Margaret was given to you when you turned 60.
-
What’s your most-used emoji?
😂
-
If you weren’t a Web Developer, what would you be?
I’d go the opposite end of what people would expect from someone in tech and go for a gardener, specialising in permaculture.
-
What’s your web superpower:
I find the subject of a sustainable web really interesting. I make sure that the sites I work on have low page sizes leading to quick load times. Websites should be Accessible to everyone including users with visual, hearing or socioeconomic challenges.
-
Favourite shortcut:
When I used the Atom code editor you could use cmd/ctrl + D to duplicate and it saved a lot of time! Shift + Alt + Down just isn’t the same, thanks Github for ruining that.
-
Favourite part of a web project:
After a project discovery. This is where problem solving really starts; developing solutions to clients needs.
-
One thing non-web folk don’t realise about your job:
90% of the internet is copied and pasted from Stack Overflow.
-
Top Web tip:
Remember that a website will be used by many people (hopefully) and try to remove your personal bias towards design and functionality, and think of the bigger picture.
-
Dream client, and why:
Aberdeen Football Club, why… COYR!
