My Event Placement Experience at Mearns & Gill

I’m currently a second-year Events Management student at Robert Gordon University. And over the past three months, I’ve had the opportunity to complete a placement at Mearns & Gill as an Events Intern, and it’s been a really valuable and enjoyable experience, so here is an outline of my journey.

From day one, I felt genuinely welcomed by everyone in the office. The team were friendly, supportive and always willing to take the time to explain things or answer questions, which made settling into the role feel easy and comfortable. It was clear that collaboration is a big part of the company’s values, and that made the working environment really positive to be part of.

Although my main role is focused on events, one of the things I appreciated most was being given the opportunity to experience different areas of the business. One of my favourite moments during the placement was being included in a discovery workshop with a new client, where I was able to see how all the different services Mearns & Gill offers come together. Seeing the ideas, strategy and collaboration across the team was really interesting and gave me a much better understanding of how the company works as a whole. Another highlight for me was being involved in the podcast, which was a really exciting opportunity and allowed me to see another aspect of the work the team produces.

Throughout the placement, I developed a range of skills including communication, adaptability and time prioritisation, as well as gaining confidence in a professional working environment. Being trusted with responsibility and included in real conversations and projects helped me grow both personally and professionally.

Overall, my time at Mearns & Gill has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve really enjoyed learning about the work the office does across all areas, and it’s given me insight into the different paths I could see myself taking in the future. I’m very grateful for the experience, the support from the team, and everything I’ve learnt during my time here.
